The NSW Government is investing $275 million to improve safety and travel times on Nelson Bay Road. The duplication of Nelson Bay Road is being delivered as a program of work. Early work on the project to upgrade the intersection of Nelson Bay Road and Medowie Road and the intersection of Nelson Bay Road and Lemon Tree Passage Road has been completed. Transport for NSW is currently planning for duplication of Nelson Bay Road from Williamtown to Bobs Farm as the next priority for the corridor.
Transport for NSW is planning to upgrade Nelson Bay Road at Salt Ash. This Section 1 upgrade is the next priority of work on Nelson Bay Road and is being fast tracked. The proposal would be constructed within the existing road boundary and would involve construction about one kilometre of dual carriageway, 900 metres east of Marsh Road at Salt Ash to 1.9 kilometres east of Marsh Road at Bobs Farm.
Key features of the proposal include:
- one kilometre dual carriageway with:
- 5 metre travel lanes
- 5 metre shoulders
- concrete median separation barrier
- two retaining walls
- utility relocations
- fauna exclusion fencing.
The construction of Section 1 would be expected to commence in 2022, subject to funding, and would take around 18 months to complete.
