The NSW Government has upgraded the Balmain East Wharf as part of the Transport Access Program.
Balmain East Wharf reopened on Thursday 18 June 2015.
Project information
The NSW Government is progressively upgrading ferry wharves across Sydney Harbour to improve Sydney’s ferry service as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program – an initiative to deliver modern, safe and accessible transport.
The new wharf is made up of a steel floating pontoon, a concrete fixed entry platform and an aluminium gangway connecting the entry platform to the pontoon.
The pontoon has a curved roof, glass panels and new seating offering some protection from the weather and improved amenity.
The new wharf provides:
- Better protection from the wind, rain and sun
- Improved safety for customers
- Improved access for mobility impaired customers and customers with prams
- Quicker and more efficient boarding and disembarking
- Future capacity for two ferries to berth at the wharf at the same time.
