Roadside tributes

Roads and Maritime understands that placing a roadside tribute may help the grieving process for those who have lost someone to road trauma.

We have developed guidelines to assist community members to plan and prepare roadside tributes to ensure they do not present a safety risk for other drivers or those visiting the tribute.

See the Road tributes factsheet for the guidelines.

We want to support you with this process, while road safety remains our paramount concern.

Before installing a roadside tribute, community members are invited to contact our team to speak to someone and plan the location:

  • Regional NSW: John Dinan, (02) 8837 0386
  • Sydney metro: David Fishburn, (02) 8843 3105.
Example of a roadside tribute, consisting of a white cross, flowers and Australian flag, placed in a grassy area well to the side of the road.
