Changed traffic conditions on Culgoora Road as part of Kamilaroi Highway heavy vehicle detour

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on a section of Culgoora Road between Narrabri and Wee Waa with a single lane closure and alternating flow arrangements in effect from Tuesday 21 June.

Culgoora Road is currently the heavy vehicle detour for the Kamilaroi Highway while emergency repair work is carried out at Spring Creek Bridge.

Narrabri Council has implemented a 1.5 kilometre single lane contra-flow closure about 13 kilometres west of  the Yarrie Lake Road intersection to prevent pavement damage to Culgoora Road.

Traffic lights will be in operation 24 hours a day with traffic controllers in place. A watercart will be utilised  through the gravel section during daylight hours to assist with dust suppression.

Motorists should plan their trip, allow an extra 10 minutes of travel time and follow the direction of traffic control and signs, including reduced speed limits.

Motorists are reminded that the heavy vehicle detour via Culgoora Road does not include access for oversize  overmass (OSOM) vehicles wider than 2.5 metres.

The detour is approved for all prescriptive and PBS vehicles up to and including AB-triple and PBS Level 3  vehicles operating at higher mass limits (HML).

It is also approved for all vehicles operating under the Livestock Loading Scheme, Grain Harvest Management Scheme at HML, and all special purpose vehicle (SPV) cranes up to and including SPV Level 6.

Repair work at the Spring Creek Bridge on the Kamilaroi Highway is expected to be completed by Monday 4 July when the heavy vehicle detour via Culgoora Road will be lifted.

Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
