OCT 2020Flat Rock Creek bridge replacement

The replacement bridge over Flat Rock Creek in the Royal National Park has been installed and Sir Bertram Stevens Drive is again open to traffic.

Work to replace the 75 year old bridge began in early-September, and crews worked day and night, seven days a week, to complete the replacement structure ahead of the busiest spring and summer months.

Transport for NSW acknowledges the patience and understanding of the communities of Bundeena and Maianbar over the past few months. We know the anxiety and economic loss caused by last summer’s devastating bushfires and the coronavirus pandemic, and we’re grateful to local residents for their positive support.

Project information

Transport for NSW recently upgraded roads in the Royal National Park, including replacing the 75‑year old Flat Rock Creek Bridge. The Royal National Park is a major tourist destination, providing the community with popular walking and cycling trails and picnicking areas.

The work was carried out over three stage: replacement of culverts on Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, slope stabilisation on McKell Avenue; and the replacement of Flat Rock Creek Bridge.

Transport for NSW invited public comment on the program in April 2020 (PDF, 1.19Mb). A consultation report (615Kb) was published in May 2020.
