Putty Road slope stabilisation
Following completion of slope stabilisation work on Putty Road near McDougal Drive, Colo, Transport for NSW will re-open Putty Road in a staged manner over the Anzac Day long weekend.
From 5am Sunday 24 April only one lane will be open with traffic control in place. This single lane closure is a precautionary measure to monitor the slope and confirm our emergency work is holding. We will reopen the road to regular traffic conditions from 5pm Monday 25 April, subject to completion of relevant safety approvals.
Transport for NSW thanks local residents and businesses for their patience during this closure while we undertook emergency work to ensure the safety of motorists travelling along Putty Road, Colo.
Putty Road closure near McDougal Drive, Colo
Transport for NSW completed emergency slope stabilisation work on Putty Road near McDougal Drive, Colo, on Saturday 23 April 2022 – re-opening the road on Sunday 24 April, two days ahead of schedule.
These safety critical repairs were required because of the recent wet weather and to remove a single lane closure which was in place due to the risk of boulders falling onto the road.
We removed unstable boulders at the top of the slope and other loose materials that presented a hazard, installed rock bolts and created a step (flat area) at the top of the slope to improve slope stability and reduce the probability of further rockfalls.
While the safety critical repairs are complete, it is possible that further work might be required at this site. If further work is required, we will try to give the local community as much warning as possible.

Other work on Putty Road
Transport for NSW is investigating other slopes on Putty Road, including one south of Wheelbarrow Ridge Road and to the north of the original work site, where a single lane closure will remain in place while repairs are undertaken. We will try to provide as much warning as possible to the local community if traffic condition changes are required.
