Transport for NSW is delivering safer and more reliable journeys on the South Coast by progressing the upgrade of the Princes Highway between Jervis Bay Road and Hawken Road as a priority project. The upgrade between Jervis Bay Road and Hawken Road will improve safety for all transport users, improve traffic and freight efficiency and connect with the Jervis Bay Road and Princes Highway intersection upgrade project.

This section will progress first to construction. This follows an assessment into safety, traffic and connectivity needs. The Federal Government has committed $400 million and the NSW Government will contribute $100 million to the Jervis Bay Road to Hawken Road upgrade.
TTransport for NSW is seeking community feedback on public and active transport (walking and cycling) options and how the highway upgrade can support the sense of place and contribute to social and economic activity in Falls Creek, Tomerong and nearby communities. Feedback on the Jervis Bay Road to Hawken Road upgrade project will inform the project’s environmental assessment and concept design. The section of the Princes Highway between Jervis Bay Road and Hawken Road has been identified as the highest priority for construction. This follows an assessment into safety, traffic and freight efficiency as connectivity needs. The Federal Government have committed $400 million to start work on this section of the Princes Highway.
Since 2011 the Australian and NSW Governments have invested $2.5 billion in upgrading the Princes Highway. This has transformed and better connected communities, employed thousands of local workers, improved safety, eased traffic congestion, and grown regional economies. The Australian and NSW Governments have now committed a further $1.5 billion to upgrade the Princes Highway between Jervis Bay Road at Falls Creek and the Victorian border.
Cardno (NSW/ACT) Pty Ltd have been appointed for the investigation and planning phase of the project, which includes reviewing existing data, carrying out additional studies and commencing strategic design work. The preferred strategic corridor has been selected and a range of design options will be identified before finalising a concept design which will be available for community display and feedback as the project progresses.
