Nowra Bridge project - Princes Highway upgrade

The Nowra Bridge project will provide a new four lane bridge over the Shoalhaven River, upgraded intersections and additional lanes on the Princes Highway.

The $342 million project is jointly funded by the NSW and Australian Governments.

Major work started in mid 2020 and the project is expected to be complete by mid 2024.

Night work will continue to take place across the project in January from Sunday 16 January to Monday 31 January 6pm and 7am, weather permitting.

The community is being asked for feedback regarding future repurposing options for the historic 1881 Nowra Bridge when it is retired to road traffic.

DEC 2021New bridge more than halfway across the Shoalhaven River

The new four lane Nowra Bridge has passed the halfway milestone with 11 of the 19 bridge deck segments launched across the Shoalhaven River.

The bridge is expected to reach the northern foreshore of the river during early 2022, weather permitting. Once the it crosses the entire river months of work will still required before cars can drive on the new bridge and this includes adjusting the temporary bearing plates under the bridge, installing barriers, building a road embankment, paving the decks, and installing signs and line marking.

NOV 2021Night work in December and Christmas site shutdown

Night work will continue to take place across the project in December from Wednesday 1 December to Thursday 16 December between 6pm and 7am, weather permitting.

The project site will be closed over the Christmas period from 6pm Wednesday 22 December until 7am Monday 10 January 2022. During this time, the reduced work zone speed limit of 60km/h will continue to be enforced and the project information line will be in operation for emergencies.

NOV 2021Temporary footpath closure

The lower eastern footpath to the southern foreshore will be temporarily closed from Monday 22 November 2021 for up to four weeks, weather permitting.

Pedestrians will be detoured via the underpass on the western side of the southern foreshore and the Princes Highway signalised crossing. Signage will be in place during these temporary closures.
