Nowra Bridge project - Princes Highway upgrade

The Nowra Bridge project will provide a new four lane bridge over the Shoalhaven River, upgraded intersections and additional lanes on the Princes Highway.

The $342 million project is jointly funded by the NSW and Australian Governments.

Major work started in mid 2020 and the project is expected to be complete by mid 2024.

OCT 2021Night work in November

Night work will continue to take place across the project in November from Monday 1 November to Tuesday 30 November between 6pm and 7am, weather permitting.

OCT 2021Bolong Road weekend closure

There will be a weekend closure of Bolong Road at the intersection with the Princes Highway from 7pm Friday 8 October until 6am Monday 11 October, weather permitting to enable pavement construction works near the intersection. During this closure, traffic signals at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Bolong Road will be temporarily turned off with highway traffic allowed to be free flowing. There will be no access to or from Bolong Road at the intersection during these works. Detours will be in place for access to and from Bomaderry.

During night time works, lane restrictions may also be in operation along the Princes Highway.

Detour Routes

Light Vehicles will be detoured via Beinda Street or via Meroo Street and Cambewarra Road. Heavy vehicles will be detoured via Railway Street and Meroo Road. Resident and business access will be maintained at all times via the eastern end of Bolong Road.

There will be some temporary footpath changes during the closure with pedestrian access maintained under traffic control. The footpath on the western side of the Princes Highway between Illaroo Road and Mattes Way will be closed during this work. Pedestrians will be detoured onto the footpath on the eastern side of the highway. Crossing locations are available at the Beinda Street roundabout or at the signalised crossing at Illaroo Road.

SEP 2021Long weekend site shutdown and night work in October

Night work will continue to take place across the project in October from Tuesday 5 October to Sunday 31 October between 6pm and 7am, weather permitting.

The site will be closed for the October long weekend from 6pm Friday 1 October until 7am Tuesday 5 October 2021.

AUG 2021Night work in September

Night work will continue to take place across the project in September from Wednesday 1 September to Thursday 30 September between 6pm and 7am, weather permitting.

A summary of night work activities during September and a map of the work areas can be viewed on the latest resident notification.

The footpath on the northbound bridge will be closed during some of these night work activities. Signage will be in place advising of detours during these closures.

AUG 2021Bridge Road weekend closure

There will be a weekend closure of Bridge Road between the Princes Highway and Hyam Street from 7pm Friday 20 August until 6am Monday 23 August, weather permitting.

All vehicles will be detoured via the Princes Highway, Moss Street and North Street during this closure. Resident and business access will be maintained at all times via the southern end of Bridge Road.

AUG 2021

AUG 2021Major traffic changes on Illaroo Road

Lane restrictions and a lowered speed limit will be in place on Illaroo Road from 9am Friday 13 August until 6am Monday 16 August, weather permitting. This work will involve shifting traffic north onto the new lowered section of road and temporarily removing the northbound left turn slip lane from the highway.

AUG 2021Temporary footpath and underpass closure

The footpath and underpass between Harry Sawkins Park and Campbell Place will be temporarily closed from Monday 16 August 2021 for up to two months, weather permitting.

Pedestrians will be detoured via the Moss Street and Princes Highway signalised crossing. The Nowra Skate Park will remain open during this work.

Work has progressed across the project with the driving of piles now complete and work continuing to install pile caps, construct piers and launch the deck segments.

Over the coming months there will be a number of temporary traffic changes and weekend closures of local roads to allow us to safely continue work across the project.
