MAR 2018Project not proceeding
Roads and Maritime Services notified the community in December 2017 of plans to install a pedestrian bridge across New Illawarra Road near Barry Road, Menai.
The feedback was assessed and as a result, the decision was made not to proceed with the project.
Roads and Maritime thanks everyone who contributed their feedback on the proposal.
Project information
Roads and Maritime originally proposed to replace the existing signalised pedestrian crossing on New Illawarra Road, Manai, with a pedestrian bridge, aimihng to improve the road’s traffic flow. It also aimed to improve safety and connectivity between the eastern and western sides of New Illawarra Road for both pedestrians and cyclists.
The work was to include:
- construction of a steel pedestrian bridge, with access ramps on the each side of New Illawarra Road
- construction of a shared path to connect to existing paths on the eastern side of New Illawarra Road
- removal of the existing pedestrian crossing, including traffic signals and pedestrian fencing.
The project is no longer being considered.
