The Australian and NSW Governments are planning to widen and upgrade Mulgoa Road / Castlereagh Road to support current and future traffic demands and expected growth in the area.

JUN 2022Project update
Transport for NSW is currently undertaking the procurement process for the project, and we expect to award the contract in the third quarter of 2022. This would allow early works to commence in late 2022. We shall provide more details to the community once the contract has been awarded for the delivery of this project.

AUG 2021Construction update
Construction to resume in line with the NSW Government announcement on Wednesday 28 July 2021, investigation work for the Mulgoa Road, Jamisontown upgrade will re-commence on Sunday 8 August 2021. Our work will be carried out in line with the latest health and safety requirements and with COVID safe practices to keep our workers and the community safe. Further information about construction resuming in Sydney is available on the Infrastructure NSW website.
MAY 2021Investigation work
Transport for NSW will carry out day and night investigation work along Mulgoa Road, Jeanette Street, Factory Road, Hatchinson Crescent, Huron Place, Peter Court, Warragamba Crescent, Glenbrook Street, Blaikie Road and the M4 Motorway ramps.

Project information
Transport for NSW consulted with the community in August/September 2018 to provide feedback on the Review of Environmental Factors (REF).
We have now obtained planning approval for the project and prepared a submissions report (PDF, 6.79Mb) to summarise the recommended option and respond to the feedback we received.
The key features of the project include:
- three lanes in each direction
- upgraded intersections – including Mulgoa Road and the M4 Motorway intersection, Mulgoa Road and Wolseley Street intersection, and Mulgoa Road and Blaikie Road intersection
- bus priority lanes at intersections
- a footpath on the western side and landscaping
- shared path on the eastern side.
The key benefits to the community include:
- improving road capacity to cater for population and employment growth
- managing congestion and delays along Mulgoa Road during peak periods
- reducing travel times and transport costs
- improving road safety for all users
- improving active transport.
