King Street is an important connection to the Sydney CBD for cyclists, connecting to the Pitt Street Cycleway to other bike routes.
The project would involve extending the existing separated cycleway between Clarence Street and Pitt Street. Providing this important link would improve the connectivity of bike networks in the CBD.

Project information
King Street is an important connection to the Sydney CBD for cyclists, connecting to the Pitt Street Cycleway and bike routes to the city's east and south. The project would involve extending the existing separated cycleway between Clarence Street and Pitt Street.
Providing this important missing link would improve the connectivity of bike networks in the CBD. We are inviting the community to share their views on the proposed design. Feedback closes 5pm Monday 6 February.
Bike riding is the most sustainable form of transport, contributing to great places, cleaner local environments, healthier lifestyles, and providing economic benefits to local neighbourhoods.
By encouraging more people to choose walking or bike riding for everyday journeys, we will improve neighbourhoods and the environment, reduce car use and traffic congestion, support busy local economies, and improve the general health of our communities.
NSW Government’s Future Transport Strategy sets the vision for safe, healthy, sustainable, accessible, and integrated journeys in NSW.
This Active Transport Strategy draws on the Future Transport Strategy and its vision for walking, bike riding and personal mobility. The Strategy provides a plan to guide planning, investment, and priority actions for active transport across NSW.
- Delivers a connected cycleway network across the CBD
- Encourages more people to ride bikes
- Provides a safe option for cyclists
- Connects cyclists to key public transport hubs
- Relieves pressure off our roads.
Encouraging more people to ride bikes is a clear, easy, and cheap way to solve Sydney’s growing health and congestion costs.
These trips help to relieve pressure on our roads and public transport networks and are part of a healthy lifestyle for NSW communities.
By encouraging more people to choose walking or bike riding for everyday journeys, we will improve neighbourhoods and the environment, reduce car use and traffic congestion, support busy local economies, and improve the general health of our communities.
Investigation works are planned to take place in late February. We will notify the community of this work.
We will consider all feedback and results from our investigation work and continue to keep the community informed.
