AUG 2022Continuing work on Martin Bridge, Taree

Transport for NSW and construction partner, Eptec, are continuing maintenance work on Martin Bridge as part of the repainting project.

From Sunday 14 August, we will be working at night to apply the final coat of paint between 7pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday.

Night work will be completed in a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off schedule. We expect night work to be complete by late December, weather permitting.

From Monday 15th August, the middle sections of scaffolding will be removed via barge and use the Endeavour Place boat ramp and a section of the car park for around four weeks.

Regular project hours are between 7am and 5pm from Monday to Friday and between 8am and 3pm on Saturdays.

We expect to complete the project by late December 2022, weather permitting.

Project information

Martin Bridge is a steel truss bridge that spans the Manning River at Taree. The bridge has an overall length of 475 metres with 15 spans, 11 of which are steel trusses. The bridge was opened in 1940 and replaced a ferry service at the end of Pulteney Street, Taree.

Transport for NSW will deliver the project which includes repairing and repainting the existing steel on the bridge. The scope of work involves encapsulating each span to remove and dispose of existing paint and apply three coats of new paint.

Martin Bridge is a significant bridge located over an important waterway. Transport has worked closely with our contractors to develop a way to deliver the work to minimise impacts on the Manning River and the local environment.

We are making sure we minimise impacts on the local community and road users by delivering the project with very limited night work and minimal short bridge closures.

Work on the project started on 11 June 2020.

Most of the work will be carried out during the day with limited impact to motorists.

During night work single lane closures, traffic control and a reduced 40km/h speed limit will be place and may affect travel time. Motorists should allow up to 10 minutes additional travel time.

Access to and from Taree will be maintained throughout the work with no detours required.

Transport for NSW and construction partner, Eptec, are continuing maintenance work on Martin Bridge which includes repairing and repainting the existing steel bridge with three coats of new paint.

Ongoing weather delays, flooding events and continued COVID-19 impacts on the workforce have resulted in significant delays to project completion.

We expect to complete the project by late December 2022, weather permitting.

We thank you for your patience during this important work.

Transport for NSW will continue to keep the community updated as this project progresses
