The Feedback Summary Report on the proposed traffic improvement options for Thirroul is now available.

This Feedback Summary Report (PDF, 10.7Mb has captured and responded to community feedback received on the proposed traffic improvement options displayed in June and July 2021 for Thirroul.

It was clear the community do not believe either of the proposed options would meet their needs.

A Project Update (PDF, 2.74Mb) was released in December 2021 to let you know we have listened to feedback and will not be progressing either of the options.

A number of opportunities for further investigation have been identified following the consultation including:

  • local road connections
  • improved active and public transport integration and connections
  • alternative improvements to intersections
  • parking improvement opportunities.

We will continue to keep you updated as these investigations progress.

Transport for NSW is progressing with the implementation of changes proposed during community consultation in June and July last year.

The changes which aim to improve the efficiency and reliability of the Princes Highway at Bulli received a large amount of community feedback with 821 submissions received on the proposal.

The changes will be implemented as outlined during the community consultation with the timing of some changes yet to be confirmed.

Work to upgrade the roundabout at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Memorial Drive started on 7 February 2022 as the community told us they wanted the roundabout upgraded a priority.

Other work includes changes in Bulli town centre near the train station, with a strong focus on delivering improved traffic flow and road safety on the Princes Highway as well as new parking options to offset extended clearway hours.

JUN 2021Have your say on the proposals for Bulli and Thirroul

The Princes Highway at Bulli and Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Thirroul provide key travel routes between Wollongong, its northern suburbs and Sydney. The town centres at Bulli and Thirroul are experiencing increased road traffic and demand for access to the town centres.

A number of options to improve safety, traffic flow and ease congestion have been developed following feedback from businesses, community members, key stakeholders and visitors during community consultation in late 2019.

To ensure the transport network continues to meet the needs of the growing population, we are proposing a number of options to help ease congestion and create more reliable journeys through Bulli and Thirroul, while ensuring the look and feel of the townships are maintained.

We are seeking feedback from the community on the options that have been developed.
