
Transport for NSW has been developing options to improve the traffic efficiency and reliability of the Princes Highway at Bulli and Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Thirroul.
Traffic improvement proposals were developed following feedback from businesses, community members, key stakeholders and visitors during community consultation in late 2019.

APR 2022Thirroul traffic improvements
The Feedback Summary Report on the proposed traffic improvement options for Thirroul is now available.
More informationThis Feedback Summary Report (PDF, 10.7Mb has captured and responded to community feedback received on the proposed traffic improvement options displayed in June and July 2021 for Thirroul.
It was clear the community do not believe either of the proposed options would meet their needs.
A Project Update (PDF, 2.74Mb) was released in December 2021 to let you know we have listened to feedback and will not be progressing either of the options.
A number of opportunities for further investigation have been identified following the consultation including:
- local road connections
- improved active and public transport integration and connections
- alternative improvements to intersections
- parking improvement opportunities.
We will continue to keep you updated as these investigations progress.
APR 2022Bulli traffic improvements
Transport for NSW is progressing with the implementation of changes proposed during community consultation in June and July last year.
More informationThe changes which aim to improve the efficiency and reliability of the Princes Highway at Bulli received a large amount of community feedback with 821 submissions received on the proposal.
The changes will be implemented as outlined during the community consultation with the timing of some changes yet to be confirmed.
Work to upgrade the roundabout at the intersection of the Princes Highway and Memorial Drive started on 7 February 2022 as the community told us they wanted the roundabout upgraded a priority.
Other work includes changes in Bulli town centre near the train station, with a strong focus on delivering improved traffic flow and road safety on the Princes Highway as well as new parking options to offset extended clearway hours.
DEC 2021Feedback Summary Report
In June and July 2021, we asked for community feedback on the proposed options. A large amount of feedback was received during the eight weeks of public consultation. We received 821 submissions on the Bulli proposal and 903 submissions on the Thirroul proposals.
More informationWe engaged an external consultant, as an independent third party, to review and analyse the submissions and prepare reports. The Feedback Summary Report (PDF, 3.9Mb) for Bulli is now available and a Project update for Thirroul (PDF, 2.74Mb) is available. The full Feedback Summary Report for Thirroul will be released in early 2022.
JUL 2021Consultation is now closed
Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback on the proposals to improve traffic efficiency and reliability of Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Thirroul and the Princes Highway at Bulli. The consultation period is now closed. A feedback report will be prepared and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The Princes Highway at Bulli and Lawrence Hargrave Drive at Thirroul provide key travel routes between Wollongong, its northern suburbs and Sydney. The town centres at Bulli and Thirroul are experiencing increased road traffic and demand for access to the town centres.

To ensure the transport network continues to meet the needs of the growing population, we are proposing a number of options to help ease congestion and create more reliable journeys through Bulli and Thirroul, while ensuring the look and feel of the townships are maintained.
We are seeking feedback from the community on the options that have been developed.
