Bennelong Bridge at night

Bennelong Bridge

Bennelong Bridge, previously called Homebush Bay Bridge, officially opened to the public in late May 2016.

The bridge stretches approximately 300 metres across Homebush Bay between Rhodes and Wentworth Point and provides two bus only lanes as well as a shared cyclist and pedestrian path.

Project information

We are inviting the public to inspect a proposed amendment to the original Homebush Bay Bridge Planning Agreement between Roads and Maritime Services and Fairmead Business Pty Limited.

The draft amendment of the Planning Agreement (PDF, 941Kb) and associated explanatory note (PDF, 135Kb) are available for viewing between 24 August and 23 September.

Built by the developer, Fairmead Business Pty Ltd, operations and maintenance of the bridge have now been transferred to Roads and Maritime.

The bridge has been designed to accommodate pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

  • The bridge has the capacity to carry light rail in the future
  • The bridge will not be open for use by private vehicles, taxis or hire cars
  • The bridge reduces the travel distance between Wentworth Point and Rhodes.

The key benefits to the community include:

  • Providing improved connectivity between Rhodes and Wentworth Point for pedestrians and bicyclists
  • Providing better public transport between Rhodes and Wentworth Point.

Roads and Maritime displayed the original Homebush Bay Bridge Planning Agreement and invited the community and stakeholders to provide feedback between 10 September 2013 and 10 October 2013.
