APR 2020Piling work ends, floatation structures begin
Work ending on piling work, now beginning foundation work.
More informationSubstation piling and foundation works are being carried out this month and the timber boardwalk will be completed. The floating structures and gangway will be going in and we are procuring the public domain lighting, main switchboards and security bollards.
FEB 2020Steel piling work begins
The installation of the wooden piles for the public boardwalk is now complete. Starting from around 12 February, we will start steel piling for the on-water component of the marina complex. This work will be noisy, but will only be carried out between certain times and there will be respite periods each day. The steel piling is expected to be finished within four weeks, weather permitting.
More informationPiling work consists of drilling holes in the seabed, then pounding the piles into the holes to secure a stable basis for the marina. Because of the drilling and (more so) the pounding of the poles into the seabed, this process can be noisy, especially with steel piles. For this reason, piling work will only be undertaken at the following times:
- 9 am to 12 pm, Monday to Friday
- 2 pm to 5 pm, Monday to Friday
- 8.30 am to 12 pm, Saturday.
JAN 2020Piling work begins
Installation of wet land piles for the boat marina has begun. This work can be noisy, but we have adopted strategies to help mitigate the noise, including respite periods on each day of piling work.

More informationAs part of this work, a number of activities will take place:
- Fencing around the construction area
- Stockpiling of materials and equipment
- Establishment of site offices and storagesheds.
Once early work is complete, major work will start, subject to approvals and weather conditions.
Project information
The project will include building wet land and dry land facilities for a marina and wharf at Bank Street, Pyrmont.
- Wet land work will include a fixed wharf, floating pontoons and a publicly accessible timber walkway.
- Dry land work will include:
- a demountable office building
- a secured storage compound for LPG gas bottles to service stoves and BBQs on the vessels, 14 bins (3000 litres), and three ice machines
- up to 11 storage single stacked shipping containers (approximately 50 cubic metres)
- up to eight storage single stacked shipping containers (approximately 90 cubic metres),
- wall-mounted business identification signage at the Bank Street frontage,
- installation of a 5 kilolitre rainwater reuse tank,
- protection measures for the ANZAC Bridge Pylon including fencing and bollards
- a new vehicle crossover to Bank Street.
The facility has been approved for use of up to five years.
There will also be a boardwalk to give public access to the waterway which will form part of the Bays walk.
The Bank Street marina and wharf facilities will be built to provide an alternative site for the displaced Blackwattle Bay Marina which was moved from Pyrmont Bridge Road, Glebe to accommodate the development of the new Sydney Fish Market.
The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment held a public consultation session about the project in 2017. For details of the project history, as well as the consultation, visit the Major Projects webiste.
