Navigation Restriction - Murray River, Curlwaa

NAVIGATION RESTRICTION
Murray River, Curlwaa
ABBOTSFORD BRIDGE – ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE
LIFT SPAN INOPERABLE
Tuesday 15 June to 24 September 2021

THE WORKS

Transport for NSW advises vessel operators that essential maintenance will be conducted on the Abbotsford Bridge, which spans the Murray River at Curlwaa, from Tuesday 15 June to 24 September 2021.

Work on the bridge will occur during the night, however due to the nature of the work the bridges lift span will be inoperable which may affect normal river use at all times between the above dates.

NAVIGATION WARNING

The bridge works will result in the bridges lift span NOT being operable, meaning the vertical clearance usually available to vessel operators when the lift span is raised will be limited at all times for the duration of the work. Consequently small vessels may be able to travel under the bridge, however larger vessels should seek further advice on their specific needs and may need to postpone their journey if necessary.

Due to varying river levels and the nature of the bridge works, specific advice on the available vertical clearance for river traffic as a result of the lift span being inoperable is not available. Vessel operators should use the contact methods below prior to planning a voyage whereby a passage along the Murray River and under the Abbotsford Bridge is required.

Other than the bridge lift span being inoperable for the duration of the maintenance, waters in the vicinity of the bridge are unaffected by any temporary vessel operation restrictions, however vessel operators must maintain a safe speed and distance and ‘minimise wash’ in the vicinity of the bridge in accordance with normal NSW marine legislation.

All vessel operators and persons using the waters specified above should keep a proper lookout, comply with local buoyage and signage, and exercise extreme caution when navigating near the works.
