Local Government Relations
The management of the road network in NSW is shared between the State Government (through Transport for NSW and Local Government (through local councils)). A three tier hierarchy is in place with Transport for NSW managing State Roads and councils being responsible for Regional and Local Roads.
The details of the working arrangements have previously been set out in the manual “Transport for NSW arrangements with councils for road management”, commonly referred to as the Yellow Book. This website replaces that manual and provides more comprehensive information for local government and Transport for NSW to assist in the management of the NSW road network.
New natural disaster arrangements
On the 1 November 2018, the Commonwealth replaced the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements with the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
To assist council meet new DRFA, the NSW Natural Disaster Essential Public Asset Restoration Guidelines have been released. These guidelines describe the NSW Government’s arrangements for providing assistance to local councils for the restoration of essential public assets that have been damaged as a direct result of eligible disasters.
