Changed traffic conditions on Mona Vale Road at St Ives
27 March 2020
Safety will soon be improved for motorists at St Ives with essential work starting in early April at the intersection of Mona Vale Road and Douglas Street.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the work is being delivered as part of the NSW Government's Safer Roads Program which aims to improve road safety for motorists.
"Thousands of motorists use Mona Vale Road each day so it is important to ensure they can enjoy safe and reliable trips," the spokesperson said.
"In the five years to 2019, there were 11 crashes recorded at the intersection of Mona Vale Road and Douglas Street, with a majority of the crashes caused by motorists turning right onto or off Mona Vale Road.
"To ensure the safety of motorists, work will be carried out to extend the existing concrete barrier along Mona Vale Road to prevent right turns in and out of Douglas Street."
The spokesperson said as a result of this work, right turns in to and out of Douglas Street from Mona Vale Road will be banned from the night of Sunday 5 April.
"Once the changes have been implemented, motorists will only be permitted to turn left in to and out of Douglas Street," the spokesperson said.
"Northbound motorists wanting to turn right into Douglas Street from Mona Vale Road will need to use Woodbury Road and Hume Avenue.
"Southbound motorists turning right into Douglas Street will need to use Killeaton Street and Kenthurst Road."
Work will be carried out from Sunday 5 April from 8pm to 5am Sunday to Friday for up to six weeks, weather permitting.
"Work may be noisy at times but all measures will be taken to minimise the impact to residents and businesses, including completing noisier tasks by midnight," the spokesperson said.
"Motorists are encouraged to plan their trip and allow extra travel time as there will be traffic control and lane closures in place while work is carried out.
"The community and motorists are thanked for their patience while work is carried out."
