Golden Highway closed at Elong Elong for clean up and repairs after fuel spill

8 January 2020

Transport for NSW is advising motorists the Golden Highway is closed five kilometres east of Elong Elong between Dubbo and Dunedoo for repairs after a tanker rolled and spilled fuel on the road on Monday.

The road is expected to be closed until around the end of the month following an incident in which a B-Double fuel tanker rolled, spilling about 30,000 litres of fuel.  No one was hurt in the incident.

The highway remains closed while workers continue to clean-up, and assess environmental impacts.

Work including cleaning up the spill, excavation of areas of damaged road and environmental assessments is being carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays, and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays, weather permitting.

A detour suitable for all vehicles is available via Cobbora Road and Muronbung Road, adding two kilometres to journeys between Dubbo and Dunedoo, equating to about five minutes additional travel time.

Changed traffic conditions are expected to be in place for about three weeks, weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to drive to conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.

Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
