Lane closures on Warringah Road at Frenchs Forest

16 December 2109

Changed traffic conditions will be in place along Warringah Road at Frenchs Forest from early January to progress the Northern Beaches Hospital road upgrade.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said work is continuing to build the 1.3 kilometre long underpass which will improve traffic flow for motorists.

“Crews have completed the underpass excavation and work will now be carried out on the approaches to the new roadway,” the spokesperson said.

“To allow work to be carried out safely, temporary lane closures will be in place along Warringah Road during the January school holidays while traffic volumes are lower."

“One eastbound lane will be closed from Altona Avenue to Allambie Road, with one westbound lane closed from Allambie Road to Wakehurst Parkway."

“Motorists will still be permitted to make right turns at Hilmer Street and Wakehurst Parkway but should be aware of the changed conditions.”

The spokesperson said the temporary lanes closures will be in place between 8pm Monday 6 January and 5am Monday 20 January, weather permitting.

“Work will involve rebuilding the road at the entry and exit points of the underpass, with excavation reaching up to one metre deep in places,” the spokesperson said.

“Work will also be carried out to complete the permanent concrete barriers between Warringah Road and the underpass to ensure the safety of all motorists once the upgrade is open to traffic.

“Temporarily closing these lanes for two weeks, rather than the alternative of multiple night and weekend closures, will minimise disruption to both motorists and residents.”

The spokesperson said motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.

“Motorists are also reminded to drive to the conditions and follow the direction of signs and traffic control,” the spokesperson said.
