Planning for the rebuilding and widening of the M1 Pacific Motorway between the Tuggerah and Doyalson interchanges is progressing with plans to use a low-noise road surface on the 12 kilometre section.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the project is part of the Australian and NSW governments jointly funded $400 million M1 Pacific Motorway Productivity Package.

“The upgrade involves widening the motorway to provide three lanes in each direction, rebuilding a nine kilometre section to improve the road surface and upgrading the Warnervale and Doyalson interchanges to improve capacity and safety,” the spokesperson said.

“The low-noise road surface was selected during the detailed design stage to reduce motorway noise and provide a safer ride for motorists.
“Roads and Maritime Services released an additional environmental assessment to address refinements made to the design since it was displayed for comment in 2014.”

Detailed information on these refinements including a revised noise assessment can be viewed in the March 2016 Supplementary Review of Environmental Factors (REF), which is available at www.rms.nsw.gov.au

The Roads and Maritime spokesperson said the contract for major work is expected to be awarded in the coming months, with work due to start next year.

The $400 million M1 Pacific Motorway Productivity Package also includes widening the motorway between the Kariong and Somersby interchanges and upgrading the M1 Weakleys Drive and John Renshaw Drive intersection at Beresfield.
