New provider to supply e-tags
6 OCTOBER 2016
Roads and Maritime Services today announced a contract with a new e-tag supplier to provide tags to new e-toll customers.
A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said there are 1.8 million Roads and Maritime e-tags in circulation and with Sydney’s population continuing to increase, so will demand for e-tags.
“After a competitive open tender process, a new $24 million contract has been signed with Kapsch Trafficcom Australia Pty Ltd to supply e-tags,” the spokesperson said.
“By going to the market via a competitive tender process, this new contract will deliver major cost savings of around $1 million a year.
“This new contract will allow Roads and Maritime to continue delivering a seamless service to Sydney’s motorists for years to come.”
The $24 million contract value is over five years, made up of an initial two year period, with an option to extend for a further three years.
The new tags will look the same as existing tags and have the same five to 10 year life span.
“There is no impact to customers as a result of this change. Customers should continue to use their existing tag as normal until it’s time to be replaced,” the spokesperson said.
Once an e-tag reaches the end of its lifespan, customers can get a replacement e-tag free of charge by calling 13 18 65 or by visiting a NSW Registry/Service NSW.
