Motorists are advised of new variable speed limits on the Eastern Distributor

3 October 2016

The Eastern Distributor will move to a variable speed limit from 10 October 2016 to improve safety and traffic flow.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the new variable speed limits will bring the Eastern Distributor in line with the M5 East and Lane Cove tunnels.

“The standard speed now for the Eastern Distributor is 80km/h. The new variable speeds will be 40km/h and 60km/h, and are matched to travel and driving conditions particularly when there is an incident on the network,” A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.

“New variable speed signs will display the variable speed limits, increasing the number of speed limit signs on the Eastern Distributor.

“It is motorists responsibility to ensure sign posted speed limits are adhered to at all times.

“Motorists are advised that speed cameras operate in the Eastern Distributor and that variable speed limits are enforceable and must be obeyed.”
