All year clearway in place on Princes Highway at Heathcote

22 August 2016

From Sunday 28 August the existing Sunday and public holiday afternoon clearway on the Princes Highway at Heathcote will be extended to operate all year round to improve traffic flow along the popular corridor.

The NSW Government is delivering the $121 million Clearways program to make better use of the existing road network and improve travel times.

“The Princes Highway is an important route connecting the Illawarra and south coast with Sydney and congestion frequently peaks on Sunday afternoons as many people travel northbound towards Sydney,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.

“In 2011 a clearway was installed on the Princes Highway northbound between Jennings and Heathcote roads for Sundays and public holidays between 3pm and 7pm from October through to the end of April.

“Road users will now benefit from these same clearway conditions on Sundays and public holidays from 3pm to 7pm, all year round.

“The changes follow community consultation about the proposal, which will see new signs installed to help direct motorists to alternative parking options in nearby Oliver and Veno streets.

“Signage for parking and the clearway hours of operation will be installed on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 August, with work hours from 9pm to 5am weather permitting.

“The clearway will come into effect on Sunday 28 August and motorists are reminded if a vehicle is parked in a clearway during operational hours it will be towed away.”

To report a vehicle parked in a clearway or if your vehicle has been towed from a clearway, please call the Transport Management Centre on 131 700.
