Intersection improvements for James Ruse Drive and Hassall Street open to traffic

6 JULY 2016

Motorists can now benefit from intersection improvements at James Ruse Drive and Hassall Street in Parramatta.

“With thousands of motorists travelling along James Ruse Drive every day, the intersection with Hassall Street provides an important connection through to Parramatta CBD and surrounding residential areas,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.

“The need for an upgraded intersection was identified through the NSW Government’s $246 million Pinch Point program, which aims to reduce traffic delays, manage congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s major road corridors, particularly during peak periods.

“The right turn bay from James Ruse Drive into Grand Avenue has been extended to provide additional capacity and reduce the number of vehicles queuing to turn in through lanes.

“Dedicated left turn lanes have been installed from James Ruse Drive into Hassall Street and Grand Avenue to also help improve the flow of through traffic.

“James Ruse Drive has been widened north of Hassall Street and new traffic light posts installed to improve safety.

“A pedestrian crossing has been built at the traffic lights at Grand Avenue to improve pedestrian safety for those accessing Rosehill racecourse.

“Finishing work including resurfacing on James Ruse Drive, repairing concrete on Hassall Street and landscaping are planned for September, once road closures for nearby M4 Motorway night works are completed.

“The project is one of more than 90 which have been delivered under the Pinch Point program, which complements other work being delivered by Roads and Maritime Services to reduce congestion.

“Under the $121 million Clearways program, new clearways have been installed on Church Street, Great Western Highway and Parramatta Road between Parramatta and North Strathfield to improve weekend and weekday travel times.”
