Work is progressing on the Airport West Marsh Street widening project which has been under way since February this year.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the project aims to increase traffic capacity and reduce congestion by providing a third westbound lane between the Giovanni Brunetti Bridge and the M5 interchange.

“Major work started in April and included building a right turn bay at the Flora Street intersection to provide access to the Kogarah Golf Course.

“About 75 of the 580 metres of new stormwater drainage has been installed along the westbound side of Marsh Street and piling and block work for the new retaining wall between Flora and Levey streets is being completed.

“The drainage work is an important part of the project to ensure stormwater from the new lane can drain away quickly.

“In the coming months work activities will include digging trenches for new storm water pipes beneath Marsh Street and asphalting the new westbound lane.

“New street lights will be installed, a concrete separated path built next to the new westbound lane and retaining wall work will continue.

“About 45 nights of work are required until Friday 30 September, weather permitting, with work hours from 8pm to 5am.

“Work will also continue on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.”

Changed traffic conditions will remain in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

To minimise impact on traffic, lane closures will only be in place after hours, which may affect travel times.
