Work starts on Sydney Harbour Bridge and Tunnel tolling upgrade

2 JUNE 2016

Work on the upgrade of the tolling infrastructure for the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour Tunnel will start from Tuesday 7 June.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the upgrade includes installing new tolling gantries and removing two of the three existing Sydney Harbour Tunnel gantries to modernise tolling infrastructure on the bridge and ensure its ongoing reliability.

“Following community consultation, Roads and Maritime will install a double span gantry above the Warringah Freeway north of Mount Street and two single span gantries above the western and eastern Sydney Harbour Bridge on ramps from Mount Street.

“A new gantry will also be installed above the High Street on ramp to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Work activities will include installing cabling, footings, safety barriers and toll gantry structures.

“Work hours will be from 7am to 6pm on weekdays with night work from 10pm to 5am to minimise the impact on road users.

“Changed traffic conditions may be in place during night work including lane closures and reduced speed limits.

“Once complete the upgrade aims to reduce the impact on the road network during maintenance and provide multi-lane tolling capability to the Sydney Harbour Bridge.”
