Safety improvement work starts on Avoca Drive at Green Point
26 MAY 2016
Roads and Maritime Services will start road safety improvement work next week on Avoca Drive near the Sun Valley Road roundabout at Green Point.
A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said the Australian Government is funding $450,000 through the Federal Black Spot Programme to improve safety for motorists and reduce the risk of crashes.
“In the five years to June last year, there were eight crashes on Avoca Drive along the 300 metre section north of Sun Valley Road, including four crashes which happened during wet weather,” the spokesperson said.
“Safety improvement work will include installing a 110 metre median safety barrier and modifying the road surface at the roundabout to improve skid resistance and reduce the risk of wet weather crashes.
“Minor improvements will also be made to the north of the roundabout to improve cyclist access to the shared path on Avoca Drive.
“This work is scheduled to start on Monday 30 May and is expected to take four weeks to complete, weather permitting.”
To reduce the impact to motorists, the majority of work will be carried out at night from Sunday to Thursday between 7pm and 5am. Some work will also be carried out Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm.
During the work changed traffic conditions including a temporary 40 km/h speed limit, lane closures and traffic diversions will be in place to ensure the safety of workers and motorists. Traffic controllers and signs will also be in place to guide motorists.
