Have a say on proposed upgrade of swing moorings at North Stockton

12 May 2016

The community is reminded to have a say on a proposal to upgrade the existing swing mooring facility at North Stockton around 1.7 kilometres north of the Stockton Boat Harbour.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the NSW Government is investigating options to inform the future of Stockton Boat Harbour and deliver an outcome for the benefit of the whole community.

“This upgrade would serve as an alternative facility for Newcastle Harbour boaters while a longer term solution is put in place,” the spokesperson said.

“Work would involve installing additional swing moorings, dinghy mooring storage and formal beach access.

“The proposal and a review of environmental factors (REF) which assesses the potential environmental, economic and social impacts of the proposal and recommends measures to minimise the potential impacts are now on display for comment until Tuesday 24 May.”

The community can view the proposal and REF at Newcastle Council on 282 King Street in Newcastle or at Roads and Maritime Services on Level 9, 101 Miller Street in North Sydney.

The Roads and Maritime spokesperson said industry is also invited to submit an expression of interest (EOI) to develop the Stockton Boat Harbour until Saturday 21 May.

“The community and stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback to Roads and Maritime Services, Stockton Harbour Project, Locked Bag 5100, Camperdown NSW 1450 or via email at Stocktonharbour@rms.nsw.gov.au,” the spokesperson said.

For more information about the proposed upgrade or to submit an EOI call the project hotline on 1800 786 683 or visit rms.nsw.gov.au
