Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists essential maintenance work will be carried out from Sunday 9 May on Nelson Bay Road at Salt Ash and Anna Bay.

The NSW Government is funding $1.3 million for two projects to help strengthen Nelson Bay Road and improve safety for motorists.

“Nelson Bay Road is the most frequently used route for tourists and locals travelling in and around Port Stephens. This resurfacing work will build a stronger road surface, which will improve safety for motorists and provide an easier journey,” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.

“The first project starts this Sunday 9 May at Salt Ash and involves rebuilding 690 metres of road surface between Richardson and Lemon Tree Passage roads.

“The second project will start Sunday 15 May at Anna Bay and involves rebuilding a further 770 metres of road surface between Port Stephens Drive and Gan Gan Road.”

Work will be carried out Sunday to Thursday between 7pm and 5am and each project is expected to take seven nights to complete, weather permitting.

Changed traffic conditions will be in place including lane closures, traffic control and a reduced 40 km/h speed limit.

Motorists are advised to keep to speed limits and follow the direction of signage and traffic controllers to ensure the safety of workers and road users.

The work will be delivered by Port Stephens Council on behalf of Roads and Maritime.
