Motorists travelling on the Eastern Distributor will benefit from real-time travel information from this week.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the corridor would be the latest in the Sydney motorway network to generate important information to motorists to help inform journeys.

“Already we have electronic message signs providing this extremely useful detail on key corridors including the M2, M7, M5, M4 and M1,” the spokesperson said.

"The information is updated every three minutes and provides motorists with up to date information about the estimated time until the next exit as well as unplanned incidents and scheduled work.

“The detail aims to help people make informed decisions about their journeys.”

The Roads and Maritime spokesperson said the Gore Hill and Warringah freeways were expected to offer the important information by June this year.

“This is the latest in the NSW Government’s $14 million traveller information program, which aims to introduce travel time services on key corridors across the Sydney motorway network.”

The Eastern Distributor is a six kilometre corridor linking Sydney city's north, south and east with the airport, bypassing up to 19 sets of traffic lights.

Travel time information will be in place from Thursday 21 April in time for the busy Anzac Day long weekend.

Information will be displayed between 4am and 10pm, seven days a week, unless required to be overridden by emergency and other high priority messages including incident updates.
