Have your say on proposal to improve bus services in your area

5 April 2016

Community members are invited to provide feedback on a proposal to improve the reliability of bus services for parts of Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the NSW Government was committed to its goal of 95 per cent on time running with adjustments to bus and road infrastructure through the Bus Priority Program helping reach this target.

“Buses are one of the main forms of public transport in the eastern suburbs and provide a critical service for the community,” the spokesperson said.

“To improve bus service reliability between Bondi and Darlinghurst changes are proposed to stops along Stanley and Yurong streets in Darlinghurst, Hargrave and Brown streets in Paddington and Old South Head Road in Bondi.

Changes are also proposed for routes from Bondi to Vaucluse along Military Road at Dover Heights and Vaucluse, Lancaster Road and Portland Street in Dover Heights and Campbell Parade at Bondi Beach.

“There would also be changes to stops along Blair Street, Wairoa Avenue, Murriverie Road and Mitchell Street at North Bondi.

“The changes include lengthening some bus stops to accommodate bendy buses and make it easier for them to exit and re-join traffic as well as combining some stops which are close together.

“Careful consideration has been given to the proposed changes to ensure stops are near schools, aged care facilities and shops.

“Where bus stops are being removed additional on street car parking will be provided where possible, providing an extra benefit for the community.

“Three stops would be removed along Stanley and Yurong streets, which are less than 160 metres away from other stops, to provide 11 additional car park spaces.

“Two stops less than 150 metres from an existing stop on Hargrave Street near Taylor Street would be removed to create seven extra car park spaces.

“The removal of four stops along Wairoa Avenue and Blair Street which are less than 200 metres away from two other stops on Wairoa Avenue would result in 11 extra car park spaces.

“Stops on Campbell Parade near Queen Elizabeth Driven would be extended up 32 metres in length further west to bring these up to standard. The stops less than 100 metres away are proposed to be removed.

“A full list of changes is available on www.rms.nsw.gov.au/bpp and feedback can be provided before Wednesday 4 May to bondibuspriority@rms.nsw.gov.au or vauclusebuspriority@rms.nsw.gov.au or PO Box 973, Parramatta CBD NSW 2124.

“All feedback will be considered and responded to in a community consultation report to be finalised later this year."
