Free mulch from the highway upgrade offered to the community

1 APRIL 2016

Roads and Maritime Services is offering free mulch from the $4.36 billion Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade will be offered to the community from late this month.

“The positive initiative will enable the community to collect stockpiled mulch from the Australian and NSW Government funded upgrade for free and result in positive environmental outcomes” a Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.

“The mulch is from the future site of the rest area on the eastern side of the Arrawarra interchange will be offered to the community on three consecutive Saturdays from 30 April.

“The giveaway will ensure the material is reused to the benefit of the community in an environmentally sustainable manner rather than being discarded and wasted.

“The community can collect the mulch using light trucks or box trailers in tow.

“Machinery will be on site between 8am and 4pm to load the material from Saturday 30 April.

“Upon collection recipients must complete a waste exemption form, comply with the Environmental Protection Authority pasteurised garden organics exemption requirements and use the mulch within a 50 kilometre radius of the project site.

“Safety at the site will be managed by the Roads and Maritime Services project team and community members are asked to follow all signs and directions provided.”
