Have your say on a new electronic message sign on Hume Motorway Glenfield

31 MARCH 2016

The community is invited to have a say on the proposed installation of a new electronic message sign on the Hume Motorway at Glenfield.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the NSW Government is funding a proposal to build the new sign on the Hume Motorway just south of the bridge approaching the Brooks Road exit as part of its $246 million Pinch Point Program.

“The Pinch Point Program aims to improve the road network and reduce delays by managing congestion at key locations and known traffic bottlenecks and providing motorists with information to make informed decisions about their trip to improve their journey.

“The community is invited to provide feedback by Tuesday 19 April on the proposed sign which would provide southbound road users with advanced and timely information on traffic conditions and incidents along the Hume Motorway, Campbelltown and Narellan Roads and the Camden Bypass.

“The electronic message sign would display information regarding delays, crashes, special events and detours along the Hume Motorway as well as general information on traffic conditions.

“If the project proceeds, work to install the new sign would include excavating and pouring foundations, underground cabling and installing and testing signs.

“The community is encouraged to have a say with all feedback to be considered in finalising the proposal.”

The spokesperson said early investigation work will need to be carried out for three nights during consultation to inform the final project design and to carry out underground utility work.

This work will be carried out between Monday 11 and Monday 18 April from 8pm to 5am, excluding Saturday, weather permitting.

Traffic controllers, signage and a reduce speed limit will be in place to guide traffic past the work site.

Temporary lane closures may be required to ensure a safe work zone and motorists are advised to allow extra travel time for their journeys.

The community will continue to be updated as the project progresses.

Community members are encouraged to provide feedback to Hume Motorway permanent electronic message sign, Glenfield, PO Box 6465 North Ryde NSW 2113 or via email to enquiries_nsw@downermouchel.com
