Reduced speed limit on the Hume motorway near Narellan road

30 MARCH 2016

Roads and Maritime Services is advising motorists a reduced 80 km/h speed limit will be in place on the Hume Motorway between the Narellan Road on and off ramps at Narellan from Tuesday 5 April as work starts on widening the Narellan Road bridge and building a new shared pedestrian bridge.

“The work forms part of the joint Australian and NSW Government $114 million 6.8 kilometre upgrade to widen Narellan Road to six lanes between Camden Valley Way and Blaxland Road at Campbelltown to reduce congestion and revitalise road infrastructure in western Sydney,” A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.

“To ensure the safety of workers and motorists the Hume Motorway will be reduced to an 80 km/h speed limit between the Narellan Road on and off ramps (around 800 metres) as work gets under way on work for a new cable-stayed pedestrian bridge across the Hume Motorway on the southern side of Narellan Road.

“Motorists are advised the reduced speed limit will be in place from 5am Tuesday 5 April to Friday 30 June 2017, weather permitting to progress work on the project.

“To reduce the impact on motorists work to implement the speed and traffic changes will be carried out at night on Monday 4 April from 10pm and 5am, weather permitting.

“Other work to be carried out as part of the upgrade includes road surfacing, line marking and installing temporary barriers and signage.

“Every effort will be made to complete the work as soon as possible.

“Motorists are reminded to take care and observe the temporary speed limit signs and electronic message boards to alert road users of the changed traffic conditions.

“Traffic controllers and electronic signage will be in place to guide traffic past the work site to ensure the safety of motorists and workers and road users are asked to allow extra travel time.

“Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience while this work is carried out.

“Once complete this upgrade of a major arterial road will provide significant benefits for people living in nearby communities including Campbelltown, Mount Annan, Camden and Narellan.”

“The Narellan Road upgrade is expected to be completed by mid 2018.”
