Parking restrictions on Old South Head road at Bondi to ease congestion

21 MARCH 2016

No Parking restrictions will soon be in effect on Old South Head Road between O’Brien and Penkivil streets in Bondi to improve traffic flow.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said feedback on the proposal was sought last year after concerns were raised about parked cars in the kerbside lane southbound contributing to traffic delays.

"Old South Head Road is the main route between Bondi Junction and Watsons Bay and to popular tourist attraction Bondi Beach,” the spokesperson said.

“Parked cars in the southbound kerbside lane reduce traffic to just one lane, contributing to congestion and longer travel times.

“Three options were developed to ease congestion including implementing the No Parking zone full time, between 10am and 6pm every day or between 3pm and 6pm every day.

“Feedback was received from 120 people and organisations with the majority in support of the No Parking full time proposal due to congestion experienced outside typical peak travel times such as during summer and special events.

“The No Parking signs will be installed in coming weeks and will be effective immediately once in place.”
