Planning for the proposed future upgrade of the Pacific Highway through Wyong town centre is progressing with the review of environmental factors (REF) and submissions report complete.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the NSW Government allocated $1.5 million this financial year to continue planning the upgrade which is aimed at improving traffic flow and providing consistent travel times for motorists by providing two lanes in each direction between Johnson Road at Tuggerah and Cutler Drive at Wyong.

“Roads and Maritime invited the community to comment on the REF to identify potential impacts and mitigation measures of the proposal in November last year,” the spokesperson said.

“The submissions report outlines the issues raised by the community and local stakeholders in response to the REF.

“The 43 submissions received raised some key issues of the proposal including alternative options, design, socio-economic impacts, traffic and transport, hydrology and flooding, non-Aboriginal heritage, noise and visual impacts.”

Roads and Maritime considered the comments received during the display and several changes have been identified including cycle facilities around Wyong railway station, parking on Howarth Street’s southern approach to Warner Avenue and staging of work on Panonia Road. The partial closure of Robley Lane to vehicles from the highway will also be considered further.

These changes will be made during the detailed design phase in consultation with the community and relevant stakeholders.
