Changed traffic conditions on Fairford Road Bridge for maintenance work

1 March 2016

Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists changed traffic conditions will be in place on the Fairford Road bridge above Canterbury Road from Wednesday 2 March while essential maintenance work is carried out.

“The NSW Government is funding the strengthening work to improve the bridge’s structure and ensure it continues to be safe for community use,” A Roads and Maritime spokesperson said.

“The work is expected to take about 26 night shifts and 17 day shifts to complete and will include lifting the bridge and replacing its bearings.

“Work will be carried out between Wednesday 2 March and Friday 13 May, Monday to Friday from 7am to 6pm and on Saturdays from 8am to 1pm. Night shifts will be carried out between 9pm and 5am, excluding Saturdays and weather permitting.

“No work will be carried out during the Easter long weekend between Friday 25 and Monday 28 March.

“To ensure the safety of motorists and workers Fairford Road will be closed for up to 10 minutes in both directions during four night shifts while the bridge lift is under way. This will be carried out when traffic is at its lightest.

“Temporary lane closures on Fairford Road will be in place as required to ensure a safe work zone and motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.

“Traffic controllers and electronic signage to guide traffic past the work site will be in place as well as a reduced speed limit to ensure the safety of motorists and workers.

“Roads users are thanked for their patience while this important work is carried out.”
