Work will start next week to provide a safer and more durable road surface for a section of the Princes Highway at Kogarah.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the project is being funded by the NSW Government and will involve diamond grinding the road surface.

“The Princes Highway is a major Sydney road corridor and provides a vital connection between the CBD and south coast,” the spokesperson said.

“Work will be carried out on the road surface between President Avenue and Rocky Point Road from Monday 15 February to Monday 4 April, weather permitting.

“Diamond grinding is a common technique used to provide a smoother and quieter road surface, provide better grip in wet weather and reduce maintenance costs.

“Other major roads which have received this treatment include the Great Western Highway and Cumberland Highway.

“The final road surface will have some colour variations due to the grinding treatment and community members are encouraged to learn more about the safety benefits by visiting rms.nsw.gov.au/projects/resources/videos.html.

“To complete the project as quickly as possible, work will be carried out between 9pm and 5pm for up to five nights per week for seven weeks, weather permitting.

“The road improvement project will include repairing concrete slabs, kerbs and medians as well as line marking.

“There will be noise associated with the work and to minimise impacts on residents the noisiest work will be completed before midnight or at locations further away from residences.

“Changed traffic conditions including lane closures and reduced speed limits will also be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.

“Road users should allow extra travel time and plan ahead their journey.”
