Major work starts on South Batemans Bay Link Road

23 November 2021

Motorists will soon experience a safer journey and better access to Batemans Bay, with the final stage of the $30 million South Batemans Bay Link Road now under way.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said this was a significant step forward for for this game changing project.

“I am thrilled to see the $30 million South Batemans Bay Link Road project ploughing into this final phase,” Mr Toole said.

“Work has now started to deliver a new roundabout on the Princes Highway at Glenella Road, a one kilometre upgrade of Glenella Road between the Princes Highway and Heron Road and changes to the intersection at Glenella and The Ridge roads.

“The increased safety and convenience of this link between the Princes Highway and southern coastal villages will enhance access to Batemans Bay for locals and visitors for generations.

“The region will see the benefits of this work immediately, with up to 30 people employed during the project, and opportunities for local suppliers and subcontractors delivering much needed economic stimulus amid the ongoing effects of COVID-19 and bushfire recovery.”

Transport for NSW will build the final stage of the project connecting to Eurobodalla Shire Council’s improvements of Glenella Road leading to the highway.

Member for Bega Andrew Constance said community feedback resulted in important additions to the final design and the project is expected to be finished in early 2023.

“Big things are happening here starting with earthworks for the new roundabout and road alignment,” Mr Constance said.

The future growth of the area will also be well supported by the link road as our region continues to recover and expand.

“Long-term, we are looking at a less stressful trip to town for locals, a better experience for visitors to the towns south of Batemans Bay, and safer journeys for all who use this link for business and leisure.”

Work will be carried out Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm. The community will be notified in advance if any work is required outside these hours.

There will be some temporary traffic changes on the Princes Highway while the new roundabout is being built.

Changed traffic conditions came into effect in late October and included reduced speeds and temporary lane closures. One lane will remain open in each direction on the Princes Highway at all times.

Glenella Road between Heron Road and the Princes Highway will be closed throughout the build, with no access to Glenella Road from The Ridge Road.

Pedestrians and cyclists will also have no access to the project area while work is carried out.

Transport for NSW will continue to keep the community updated as work on this exciting piece of local infrastructure progresses.
