Have your say on design for new Tumut roundabout

28 September 2021

The local community is being invited to have its say on the proposed upgrade of the Gocup Road and Snowy Mountains Highway intersection in Tumut, with the concept design and environmental assessment now available for feedback.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the release of the concept designs for the $15 million upgrade was a key milestone as the NSW Government works to transform this busy intersection to ensure smoother and safer journeys for all motorists.

“We know that the community wants to see this intersection upgraded as soon as possible, which is why I requested the Centre for Road Safety to conduct an immediate safety review of the intersection in May last year, which has led to the designs we are putting out today,” Mr Toole said.

“We’re moving ahead as quickly as possible, with works scheduled to commence in early January next year and expected to take 12 months to complete.

“Interim safety works were completed in April last year, which included additional signage, new line marking and removal of vegetation, and with today’s designs released, the full upgrade is in sight.”

Member for Wagga Wagga Joe McGirr said the release of the Review of Environmental Factors was good news for the community who were eager to see a permanent, safer intersection delivered.

“I strongly encourage the community and anyone who uses the intersection to read the REF and have their say on the design, so we can make sure we get the best outcome for Tumut and the region,” Dr McGirr said.

“I also want to thank the Minister for taking this matter so seriously, for visiting the site in July last year to see for himself the community’s concerns and for pushing to get a permanent solution in place as soon as possible.”

The community can give feedback on the REF by emailing SouthProjects@transport.nsw.gov.au or by writing to the Tumut intersection upgrade project team at PO Box 484, Wagga Wagga NSW 2650.
