Regional rail and coach services will resume between Victoria and NSW next week as the border reopens.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said as travel restrictions lifted, the resumption of NSW TrainLink services will allow NSW residents and interstate visitors to make plans, book holidays and reunite with family members.

“It’s been a challenging time for our regional communities, especially border towns, and we know people are eager to venture beyond state borders,” Mr Toole said.

“NSW is very much open for business - we’re here to help people get to where they want to go with affordable transport options to visit family and friends across the border, all as well as providing the opportunity to explore all that regional NSW has to offer.

“I want to thank our border towns for working with us during the pandemic and want you to know we are doing all we can to get you moving again.”

Regional coach services will resume from Monday 23 November and the first XPT service will depart Sydney Central for Melbourne Southern Cross on Wednesday 25 November. The first service to depart Melbourne Southern Cross for Sydney Central will be on Thursday 26 November.

Mr Toole said regional public transport services will run at a COVID safe capacity with enhanced cleaning and other COVID measures continuing to keep customers and staff safe.

“Customer safety is our top priority so please plan ahead and book tickets early as services are still running at about 50 per cent capacity to help maintain physical distancing,” Mr Toole said.
