Safer journeys between Ilford and Sofala

19 June 2020

Travelling through the Central West will soon be safer with work starting next week to upgrade Ilford Sofala Road west of Ilford.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads and Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said the re-seal works along a 3.5-kilometre section of Ilford Sofala Road, about five kilometres west of Ilford, would deliver a safer and more efficient journey.

“This upgrade is sorely needed, as the road is a popular link for residents and tourists between Ilford and Sofala,” Mr Toole said.

“The upgrade will improve the road surface and drainage, as well as widen the road shoulders.

“By widening the road shoulders, we are improving safety for all road users by allowing extra room for motorists to correct themselves, should they veer off the road.

“The new surface will also improve drainage to stop water from pooling on the road, and will also reduce future maintenance costs.”

The NSW Government has provided $931,000 under the resealing improvement program to deliver the project.

Work will start on Monday, 22 June and will take four weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Work will be carried out between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday, and may include work between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays with a reduced speed limit of 40
km/h in place for the safety of workers and road users.
