Locals to help build Newell overtaking lanes
5 June 2020
Local suppliers in Parkes can be involved in a game-changing project for the Newell Highway by registering their interest to help extend the existing northbound overtaking lane on the Newell Highway at Coobang.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the NSW Government was delivering about 30 overtaking lanes along the Newell Highway to improve travel times and freight efficiency, with the latest to start this month about five kilometres north of Parkes.
"The Newell Highway overtaking lanes program is a huge project which is creating jobs right along the length of the highway," Mr Toole said.
"Since the launch of the program in March 2019, together with the Newell Highway Program Alliance, we have delivered eight overtaking lanes near Gilgandra, Dubbo, Parkes and Forbes, with more to open soon.
"Transport for NSW is now seeking local suppliers, contractors and labour to help the project team carry out work on this latest overtaking lane near Parkes.
"We will be hosting an online information session for prospective contractors and suppliers next week and we encourage local businesses and community members to join to find out more about the opportunity.
"About 80 local contractors and suppliers have already contributed to the new overtaking lanes we’ve delivered along the length of the Newell, stretching from the Victorian to the Queensland border, and we look forward to providing more as the project powers ahead."
The online information session will be held on Thursday, 11 June from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and team members will be available to answer questions about the upcoming project.
