Road surface repairs on the Golden and New England highways in the Upper Hunter are now under way as part of the NSW Government’s economic stimulus package.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said stimulus funding from the $2.3 billion NSW Government COVID-19 package announced in March had allowed Transport for NSW to bring forward and deliver projects in addition to its planned program of work.

“With the additional funding we have been able to allocate $500,000 to carry out road surface repairs on the New England Highway between Aberdeen and Willow Tree and $700,000 to carry out road surface repairs on the Golden Highway,” Mr Toole said.

Member for Upper Hunter Michael Johnsen said the work would be a boost for local communities during challenging times.

“Transport for NSW has engaged Upper Hunter Shire Council to carry out the work on the Golden Highway between Gungal and Cassilis, which started on Tuesday 5 May and will take five weeks to complete, weather permitting,” Mr Johnsen said.

“Muswellbrook Shire Council will carry out work on the Golden Highway between Denman and Sandy Hollow, which will start on Monday 18 May and will take one week to complete, weather permitting. 

“Work on the New England Highway started in late April and will be completed in early May.” 

Night work on the New England Highway is being carried out from Sunday to Thursday between 7pm and 5am. 

Work on the Golden Highway between Gungal and Cassilis will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and on weekdays from 8am to 4pm between Denman and Sandy Hollow.
