Planning Minister Rob Stokes and Roads Minister Duncan Gay today announced final plans
for one of NSW’s biggest urban renewal projects, which will be supported by new transport
infrastructure.

Mr Stokes said the new Carter Street precinct at Lidcombe will transform a rundown
industrial area into a new community with about 5,500 homes, space for corporate offices
and light industry that could provide up to 5,500 jobs, a planned new primary school and a
new foreshore reserve at Haslams Creek.

“We want to create a vibrant new community with the houses, infrastructure and the public
facilities people want,” Mr Stokes said.

“The NSW Government is committed to delivering new homes with transport, schools and
greenspace to create places where people want to live.”

Mr Gay said the NSW Government is building transport infrastructure to support new
communities, including a westbound off-ramp from the M4 at Hill Road.

“Directly connecting Carter Street and Wentworth Point precincts to the M4 provides an
alternative route taking pressure off the notoriously congested Australia Avenue and
Homebush Bay Drive interchange,” Mr Gay said.

“Along with the G-Loop and the eastbound M4 on-ramp, being delivered under WestConnex,
this completes the trifecta of road upgrades for the Homebush area.

“The ramp will further complement travel time savings provided by the M4 Widening and is
being fast tracked to open at the same time as Stage One of WestConnex in 2019.”
Member for Drummoyne John Sidoti said this is a great result for the local community.
“The road upgrades are a huge win for new and existing residents as well as sports fans
heading to Olympic Park,” Mr Sidoti said.

NSW Government funding of $140 million has been secured for the M4 westbound off-ramp,
supplemented by developer contribution of $55 million towards road upgrades.
Up to $5 million will also be made available to Auburn City Council as part of the Priority
Precinct Support Scheme to fund infrastructure like walkways and cycleways.
