Locals invited to have their say on concept design for Goonoo Goonoo Road
16 November 2021
Plans are powering ahead to upgrade Goonoo Goonoo Road with locals now invited to have their say on the refined concept design.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said $3 million has been committed towards planning the upgrade of the section of Goonoo Goonoo Road between Jack Smyth Drive and Calala Lane.
“This section of Goonoo Goonoo road is the gateway to our city. It’s the first thing people see when driving into Tamworth and first impressions count,” Mr. Anderson said.
“We want to make sure that we get this right by working with the community to ensure the design is perfect before shovels hit the ground.
“Goonoo Goonoo Road is also a critical part of our freight network so it is vital those truck drivers who use the road regularly are given the opportunity to provide feedback.
“Tamworth is a growing city with a number of key sporting, equine and entertainment facilities on our southern border so it is essential that this road provides safe, smooth journeys for those heading out for a game of golf, hockey or basketball or for those heading out for a show at the TRECC during the festival.
“The community had their chance to have their say on the early concept design back in March, which resulted in the addition of truck parking bays along the road.
“We’ve listen to the views of locals and stakeholders about this upgrade and we’re now coming back to the community with an updated design for consultation, to ensure the road fits our needs here in Tamworth.”
The concept design and the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) are now on display online and it’s an opportunity for those who travel on Goonoo Goonoo Road every day.
“We are again inviting the community to get involved in the design process for this road so that we ensure the designs are perfect,” Mr. Anderson said.
The updated plans are now on display Tamworth Regional Council and at Tamworth City Library.
A copy of the concept design and the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) are also available on the project website at nswroads.work/ggroad, together with details of how to provide feedback.
Community members are invited to provide their feedback on the REF and revised concept design by Friday 10 December 2021 at yoursay.transport.nsw.gov.au/ggroad, via email to firstname.lastname@example.org, by calling 1800 653 092, or by post to:
