Locals to build regional rail maintenance facility

20 October 2021

Dubbo locals are invited to attend an information session next week to learn how they can be fast tracked into entry level jobs on the Regional Rail project.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said job seekers will be able to apply to join a pre-employment program designed to provide them with the necessary technical and employability skills training.

“We need a workforce to help construct the purpose-built Mindyarra Maintenance centre in Dubbo to support the new NSW regional rail fleet, and there are many other employers in the region looking for people with training in basic construction skills,” Mr Saunders said.

“This centre will stimulate our economy and help create sustainable jobs, while also developing the skills of people living and working in the region.

“The project team, in partnership with Momentum Trains, is delivering a pre-employment program to provide accredited entry-level technical and employability skills and training to locals, as well as providing an employment pathway for those interested in working in the infrastructure industry.

“Providing opportunities for people and businesses in regional NSW is a core commitment of the Regional Rail Project, and I’m encouraging locals to register for this information session to learn how to get trained up.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said about 200 jobs are required during the construction of the centre, due for completion in 2022, with 50 ongoing jobs to support the maintenance of the new fleet.

“This will be a boost for people living and working in the region to ensure they have the right skills and training to be able to successfully apply for these jobs,” Mr Toole said.

“The program has been developed in line with job vacancies, which will be made available to pre-employment program graduates that successfully complete the program and meet employer requirements.

“This is a terrific opportunity for locals to get on board, get upskilled and get a job.”

Applicants will attend an online selection day and successful candidates will then complete two weeks of training from Wednesday, 3 November to Wednesday, 17 November 2021.

Register to attend an information session on Monday 25 October by emailing SIP@transport.nsw.gov.au. More information on the Regional Rail project can be found at: Transport Projects/Regional Rail.
