New paint job for Martin Bridge at Taree

9 December 2019

Martin Bridge over the Manning River at Taree will get a refresh with tenders now open to repaint the bridge.

Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead said the project would maintain the structural integrity of the bridge and reduce future maintenance requirements.

“The upgrade of Martin Bridge aims to future proof this bridge, preserving the life of the structure and ensuring it continues to serve the community well into the future,” Mr Bromhead said.

“The 475-metre bridge has 15 spans, 11 of which are steel trusses. It was opened in 1940 and replaced a ferry service at the end of Pulteney Street, Taree.

“The successful contractor will be responsible for repairing and repainting steel work which includes removal of existing paint, applying a corrosion prevention primer coat and two coats of paint.

“The project also includes cleaning bearings, rehabilitating expansion joints and installing bird proofing.”

Work will start on the upgrade in April 2020, with the project to be completed by mid-2022. Tenders will close on 17 January.
